Looking for the perfect villa to rent in Bali’s most sought after holiday location? Look no further. We’ve put together this time saving list of the best private villas in Canggu.
The perfect vacation in Bali is all about beautiful days spent alternating between lounging around on the beach; checking out the hottest new spas, restaurants and beach clubs; exploring Bali’s rich culture; and of course, getting active with surfing, yoga and diving.
It’s pick your adventure – si vous plait.
Although on second thoughts, the perfect holiday in Bali is all about lazy Sundays in a gorgeous villa. And Instagram-ing the life out of it. Because let’s face it, who can afford to live like this back home?
The Canggu lifestyle
Canggu is the IT place to be amongst Bali expats, unofficial Bali residents and repeat visitors to the island of Gods. Why Canggu? you ask. Why not? we say.
Canggu is set away from the unbearable traffic of Seminyak and is an aesthetically spectacular area. Close to Bali’s best beaches (Echo, Batu Bolong and Tanah Lot, to name a few), surrounded by Bali’s best cafes, and hedged by endless rice field vistas, you just can’t pick a better spot to call home in Bali. Even if it’s just for a couple of weeks.
The swanky dining and nightlife scene in Seminyak might be hard to part with, but it’s nice to take it easy in Bali and experience a slower pace of life that’s utterly fabulous at the same time. After all, the dining scene of Seminyak is still only a quick scooter ride away.
Eating out in cafes and restaurants in Canggu is a casual affair. Here, you’ll find healthy juice bars, Western warungs and Asian noodle bars on Jalan Pantai Berawa; fantastic cafes are everywhere (note this down: Crate Café, Milk and Madu). Everyone’s favourite is the unbeatable Betelnut, where the burgers are epic and the house salad is overflowing with goodness, all for less then US$5. And no, we can’t stop sensationalizing a salad when it’s that amazing.
And you might want to trade your spa and shopping outfit in Canggu for a surfboard and yoga attire. A surfing lesson in Batu Bolong is an unmissable experience, and a few yoga sessions at Desa Seni and Samadi Bali will change your life.
Then, if you want to ride with the Canggu hipster crowd, head to Deus for a midweek beverage and – if you’re there on a Tuesday – a free tattoo. A Friday session at Old Man’s is perfect for live music, remembering that a couple of cocktails are completely obligatory. And really good fun.
Canggu villas for rent — The best in the world
So we’ve sold you on Canggu, now it’s down to villa business. When it comes to space and comfort, private villas in Bali are amongst the best in the world. You get the luxurious décor, divine peace, round-the-clock boutique hotel style service of private chefs, chauffeurs, housekeeping and butlers and all at a very reasonable nightly rate.
If you’re travelling in a group of two pairs or more, it already works out to be significantly cheaper than booking individual rooms in a luxury or boutique hotel in Bali – a great way to tempt the team into booking their flights to Bali pronto.
If you’re still mulling over whether to spend your holidays in Bali, we say Bali wins every time.
These stunning villas for rent in Canggu are available for stays long and short, just be sure to book ASAP because they sell out fast!
We’ve organised this list from least to most expensive to give you a rough idea of the sort of value you can expect. An intimate luxury villa sits on the banks of the Pancaran River, overlooking a natural landscape of rice paddies in the quiet village of Canggu. RedDoor Bali combines relaxed island living, contemporary interior design, stylish European lifestyle and traditional Balinese accents. The focal point of the property is a 70-sqm infinity pool overlooking the Pancaran riverbank and waterfalls.
Influenced by traditional Balinese architecture, the villa’s indoor spaces flow freely into outdoor living spaces, exhibiting sweeping views of rice fields, traditional temples, streams and rivers from every room and corner of the property.
The villa accommodates up to ten guests in four stylishly appointed master bedrooms. Plus, you’ll be completely spoiled by a team of hospitable and highly trained staff. The service you get here is on par with that of a luxury boutique hotel, yet with an exclusive level of privacy that only a private villa can offer.

#6 Villa Sabana – immaculate interior and an 18-meter pool
Villa Sabana looks like a quintessential Seminyak villa. You know the style. Bright pastel accent walls, cushions everywhere and immaculately placed furniture. Facebook worthy at every turn, #nofilter. But it’s located in Pererenan, just beyond Canggu. Which actually makes it trendier because Pererenan is the newest ‘up and coming’ area to live in Bali. And you found it first.
A fabulous 18-meter pool faces a picture perfect frame of rice paddies and swaying coconut palms. Do we need to go on? The feminine touch of this place makes it perfect for a girl’s week away in Bali. We can just picture the SATC girls gossiping on the sun loungers while sipping Mojitos.

#7 Villa Mata Air – open plan living on the outskirts of Canggu
Pererenan is a beautiful and rustic locale that lives in Canggu’s shadow, yet is still theoretically considered Canggu – if you know what we mean. It’s the next in-demand district, even less built-up than Canggu but still close to the bars, beaches and cafes in Echo Beach and Batu Bolong.
Nestled on the River Pangi is this modern single-storey five bedroom villa that combines open plan Balinese living and Western contemporary deco. Because let’s face it, there’s no interior better than an Asian fusion interior.

#8 Villa Semarapura
Semarapura means ‘Temple of Peace’ in Sanskrit. This luxury villa is located somewhere between the famous and breathtakingly beautiful Tanah Lot temple, and Canggu and Pererenan beach. Being just a little further away from the heart of Canggu affords you out of this world ocean views and a private tropical garden.
The villa compound is laid out just like a resort, with over 5,000 square meters of oceanfront heaven. Two main bedroom suites each have a private lap pool, while two guest suites share a common building across two floors. But don’t be fooled, there’s nothing common about this place. The main living area is also spread over two open-air floors and surrounded by not one, but two pools.
When your butler is fixing your G& T on the second floor living deck and you’re watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean, all you’ll be thinking is: “this is out of control.”

#9 Puri Bawana – space, character and perfect for events
If relaxing in a private bale that floats above a private pool against a peaceful backdrop of tropical forests and rice paddies is your idea of a perfect holiday in Bali, then here’s a resort style villa in Canggu that’ll make you feel right at home. If home was a private resort, that is.
Like a traditional Balinese compound, living areas and rooms are housed in separate buildings. And like a luxury resort, these buildings are linked by pergola-covered walkways. The villa reminds us more of a classic luxury hotel than a swanky contemporary villa, but it makes up for its age with space and character.
This five bedroom villa is a popular choice amongst families and groups travelling with a kiddie football team (there’s a five-bed bunk room where the little ones can camp out). An extensive lawn and double ceiling living pavilion also make it a fantastic space for weddings and parties. They’ve organised a few and can help you arrange Balinese dancers, caterers, DJs and anything else you need to host an unforgettable event.

#10 Villa Sankara
Plunked right on the edge of Berawa beach with direct beach access from the enormous infinity pool, Villa Sankara is a stunning five bedroom villa located behind the Canggu Club. It’s a little pricier than the other villas on the list. But in return you get space, style, and a lot of it. Between the garden miniature forest that sits around the bedroom suites and main house, the massive indoor-outdoor living spaces and the monumental poolside, there’s plenty of space for the kids to run around or the grown ups to host a banging party.
What’s nice about staying in Villa Sankara is that here, Bali comes to you. On the stretch of beach right in front of the villa, beach hawkers selling beach snacks and local delights set up shop at sundown. Local groups of children practice dance and martial arts on the beach every Sunday. And if there’s a ceremony in the temple next door, you’ll catch all the action right from the villa.
Staffed by a team of twelve managers, chefs, maids and chauffeurs around the clock, a stay in Villa Sankara will make you think twice about going home.
